Piran is an ancient coastal town on the most western headland of Slovenian Istria. Its first inhabitants settled here in the middle of the 5 th century and in the 13 th century it was taken over by Venetians. It was then that this small old town started to develop and prosper.

Hotel Piran is situated next to the beach and at the same time only 150 m from the centre of Piran. The hotel was built in 1964 and almost entirely refurbished in 2002. It is a 4-star hotel with modern furnishings.
There is a wide range of gourmet delicacies on offer and the friendly hotel staff will do all they can to ensure that you have happy memories of your stay here. There are several restaurants and cafés very near to the hotel and a little further away a bank, post office, chemist's and grocer's.
The town beach is next to the hotel where guests can enjoy the sea and sun. Hotel guests can hire beach loungers at the Reception desk.

You can find out about the town in the Town Archives which are among the most extensive in Slovenia including a valuable collection of documents dating from the 12 th century onwards and in the Town Museum with its valuable archeological, ethnographic, historical and art exhibits. The sea Aquarium, the Tartini theatre and the numerous galleries are also well worth a visit.

For centuries Piran has inspired artists who have left their mark on the town. The most well known was the violinist and mathematician Giuseppe Tartini who was born here. The square in the centre of Piran has been named after him *Piran, the name. Older researchers think that it comes from the Celtic “bior-dun” giving it the meaning of the “place on the hill”. On the other hand the younger generation derives the name from the Greek “pyr” meaning “fire”, since the original settlement served as a beacon for ships sailing to the nearby Greek colony of Aegido in the region of present-day Koper.
